Walking

Whenever you feel you want to get back to nature, to see vast tracts of countryside unchanged for hundreds of years, unspoilt beaches and rare flora and fauna, the solution is simple. Come to the Isle of Man and re-discover the pleasures of walking in the tranquility of an island where you'll witness a landscape known to the Celts and Vikings many hundreds of years ago.

Remember walking? When you could walk for ages in the country without meeting a soul, and certainly without breathing in traffic fumes. Well, it is still possible in the Isle of Man to 'put your best foot forward' and discover 'real' countryside - the ultimate outdoor adventure.

The Isle of Man's first ever Walking Festival in June 2004 was a huge success, with walkers enjoying the 20 walks on offer during the five days festival. The dates for the 2005 Walking Festival are 19 - 24 June.

All the walks are aimed at people of all abilities. Distances range from a relatively short three and a half mile walk, to one of almost 14 miles, which involves three fairly steep ascents.

For more information and details of how to book, please call Travel Services on 01624 661177 or visit the official Walking Festival website www.isleofmanwalking.com

Walkers can book all the walks they wish to participate in. It is not necessary to take part in walks every day. Walks and social events during the festival can be booked independently. There will also be ghost walks at night around Peel, which boasts a spectacular castle on the rocks by the sea, one part of our colourful and historic Island. If they wish visitors can also take a ride on our 130 year old steam railway, or our 110 year old electric tram system.
